Study Permit

International students need both an offer of acceptance from a Canadian college or university and a valid study permit to pursue an education in Canada. Applicants must have an offer of acceptance from a Canadian college or university before they can apply for the study permit.

For many students from non-traditional backgrounds or who don't have the resources and information to apply for these programs, it is very easy to end up not acquiring a study permit on time and failing to attend college or university. In these cases, students are often automatically dropped out of enrollment and are forced to apply to the college or university next year and start the whole process over again. Additionally, many students think that a basic study permit application is sufficient but end up being refused due to an officer's suspicions that a student may not be able to successfully complete their studies in Canada.
